Post [How To] Installing phpBB3
This tutorial will start you off by showing you how to install phpBB3 on your existing GetForum.org account.

First of all, you'll need to know about the new Hosting Control Panel (HCP). This control panel allows you to do many tasks, like installing new software on your account, setting up email addresses, and setting up your own parked domain.

To access your HCP you would go to http://yourdomain.com/acp

For example, mine would be http://forumevolve.getforum.org/acp

Once you've reached your HCP, login with your admin username and password. If you've never logged into the HCP before you may have to try it a few times before it will give you access.

Once logged in you will see the General Information page. On the left hand side you will see some buttons.

In that list of buttons you will see one that say Applications.

Click on Applications and you will see on the right, a list of different software including phpBB3.

Find phpBB3 in the list and look to the right of it.

You will see a link that says Install.

Click that and phpBB3 will be automatically installed.

This will also automatically set phpBB3 as the default.

That means whenever someone types in your site's address it will send them to phpBB3.

That may not be what you want, you may still want your visitors to use phpBB2 and have phpBB3 installed just so you can get used to using it before you actually let it be public for your visitors.

In that case, you will see a link to the right of phpBB2 that says [Put Default]

That's the link you want to click if you want phpBB2 to be first.

When both phpBB3 and phpBB2 are installed you will have 2 different URLs to access each of them.

phpBB2 = http://yoursite.com/forum

phpBB3 = http://yoursite.com/board

I hope you enjoyed this how to.

Questions may be asked within this thread about installing phpBB3.

Hi, just a stupid question:do I have to transfer everything from my old forum phpbb2 to the new one or will be done automatically when I'm ready?

I follow your guide and I'm starting getting used to the new phpbb3, when can I move my forum from the old one to the new one?

Thanks so much! :lol:

Currently you can only set up a fresh install of phpBB3. In the future you will be able to convert your old phpBB2 board to phpBB3 automatically but there are still some bugs that need to be worked out.

It would be a good idea to set up phpBB3 right now, keep phpBB2 as default for your members to use, but keep phpBB3 installed for your own practice so you can learn how to use all the features of it.

It is easy to understand,
There are no complicated details,
I did as you have said.
phpBB3 loaded and default right now but my forum is still at phpbb2,
I will keep it that way as you have recommended until I know what I am
doing in phpbb3 and my first question is what is that [ Reset Modules ]
option right next to phpbb3 name tag???

I accidentally pressed that one!
What have I lost by doing that? :D

And my second question is when I checked it out doing this just gave me a new blank forum without portal. Now do we have to start all over again? Everything has to be typed again?

(PS. It is a very nice avatar Eclipse :D funny! )

Thanks for the post. It was very helpful and easy to follow. The ability to enable phpbb2 & 3, as opposed to one or the other, is a very attractive option as well. Thanks Admins.

One Love
